Families share many joyful and challenging experiences, and influence each other in lots of ways. Understanding family experiences is important for learning how to support families who are experiencing difficulties, and for providing advice for families with newly diagnosed children.
The aim of the project is to explore how family members affect one another – for example, how the wellbeing of parents and the behaviour of siblings affects the child with intellectual disability, and how the characteristics of the child with intellectual disability affects emotional wellbeing in parents and siblings. We are also interested in how siblings play together in the home, and how parents can best support these interactions.
